Morning Drive 3R Rehabilitation
Project Description
Description: The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes to rehabilitate and bring to current standards the existing roadway on State Route 184, in Kern County, between 0.1 mile north of Edison Highway at post mile 8.5 and 0.1 mile north of Chase Avenue at post mile 11.6. Complete Streets elements would be incorporated, including Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalks, curb ramps, and continuous bike lanes in both directions, within the project limits.
Project Benefits
Purpose
The purpose of this project is to restore the facility to a state of good repair so that the roadway is in a condition that only requires minimal maintenance expenditures. Also, the project proposes to replace and upgrade other highway elements within the project limits that are failing, worn out or functionally obsolete.
Need
The frequency of repairs required is surpassing the availability of State maintenance forces and has resulted in increased costs of maintaining State Route 184 within the project limits. At various locations, the existing shoulder widths are not to current standards. Also, existing sidewalks and curb ramps are not to current standards. Pedestrian and bicyclist accessibility are not continuous within the project limits.
